Chinook's Edge Land Acknowledgement
We respectfully acknowledge that the schools within Chinook’s Edge School Division are situated on Treaty 6 and 7 land, home of the First Nations (Dene, Nehiyawak (Cree), Nakoda, Anishinaabe, Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), Tsuu T’ina), the Métis Nation of Alberta, and Inuit Peoples. From the majestic mountain views, vast prairies, and skies of the chinook arch, we express gratitude for the beauty and abundance these lands provide.
In recognizing the harmony of earth, plants, water, and wind that breathe life into all we do, we strive to learn and grow as a community while cherishing individual differences. This land acknowledgment represents our commitment to reconciliation, connecting us to those who once walked these lands and forging a path together for the generations to come.
The Spirit and Intent of the Land Acknowledgment
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge the rich and intricate histories of Indigenous peoples, embracing their teachings and finding strength in progressing together. Across our jurisdiction, we take action to create vibrant and inclusive spaces of learning and belonging for every student.
Chinook's Edge commitment to Truth and Reconciliation
Chinook's Edge School Division is committed to reconciliation and responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. Engagement in this work demonstrates our duty to be part of a path forward, recognizing that education will build relationships and aid in breaking down barriers. We believe that conversation will further foundational learning across our school division. We welcome you to join us on this journey which starts by understanding the truth and history of this land.

Supports for Indigenous students
Scholarships
There are many scholarship, bursaries and awards available for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. We encourage families and students to reach out to their school for more information about these opportunities.
Jordan's Principle
Jordan's Principle makes sure all First Nations and Inuit children living in Canada can access the products, services and supports they need when they need them. Funding can help with a wide range of health, social and educational needs. Read more about Jordan's Principle, HERE.
First Nations and Inuit families in Chinook's Edge have access to these supports in two ways:
1. Families can apply directly. The First Nations Health Consortium improves access for families in Alberta who are living off reserve. Please click HERE for more information on how to apply through the FNHC.
2. Chinook's Edge applies for Jordan's Principle supports annually. Please contact your child's school to know how this group application may benefit your child.
