Chinook’s Edge Educational Assistant receives King Charles III Coronation Medal for service to community youth

Chinook’s Edge Educational Assistant, Jackie Dewane, has received a King Charles III Coronation Medal for her service to youth in her community. Dewane, who works at Sundre High School, was nominated for the award by Peter Davis, who is the Chair of the Alberta Air Cadet League, in “recognition of [her] contribution to the Air Cadet League of Canada and the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program.”
Davis said Dewane “has been instrumental in the organization’s success. While Jackie is not one to seek out recognition for what she does, and she does a lot, I felt it was important that she be recognized for all that she does.”
Davis said, given the purpose of the recognition - to celebrate people that have made a significant contribution to the country, province, territory, region or community - “Jackie’s work with the Air Cadets exemplifies that contribution and sacrifice.”
Scott Saunders, Principal of Sundre High School, says,"Congratulations to Jackie on receiving this medal. Her commitment to serving the youth in our community - in and out of school - is appreciated."
Dewane started volunteering for the Air Cadet program when her children first became involved, 23 years ago. Since then she served in the local support group, and then joined the provincial committee. She worked as an advisor to a couple squadrons, as an Assistant Central Wing Director, and Camp Director. She is currently the Central Wing Director.
“I have seen the benefits of this program for kids,” says Dewane. “I had three kids go through the program and saw such growth in them, especially with their confidence.”
Dewane says, “I like kids, and I enjoy being involved with them. That’s why I have stayed involved.”
Dewane says the highlight of receiving this award was receiving it in front of the cadets she serves. “They are why I do what I do,” she says.
