Annual student attendance calendars

Board Highlights - June 24, 2025

Highlights from the board meeting held June 24, 2025

Board congratulates graduating class of 2025
The Chinook’s Edge Board of Trustees wishes to extend its congratulations to the graduating class of 2025. The Board echoed the comments of Superintendent Ryan Sawula, given in his Superintendent’s report at the meeting. Sawula said, “This is a time for students to reflect on their years of growth, perseverance, and learning. We honor not only their academic successes but also the friendships, challenges, and personal development they have experienced. Sincere congratulations to our graduating students as they embark on new beginnings!”

Trustees vote in favour of posting expenses on the division website
Although the Chinook’s Edge Board has always shared trustee and board expenses as a part of annual budgeting documents, and consistent with all legal requirements, the board voted to increase its level of transparency. Trustees will have their expenses posted on the division’s website, starting with the 2024-25 school year and moving forward. This will begin in the fall, after a template for sharing has been developed.

Board receives facilities update
Trustee Gord Kerr, chair of the Facilities and Maintenance Committee meeting, reviewed highlights from the committee meeting held May 20, 2025. The board expressed appreciation for staff’s work, and for making the most of available resources. Roofing costs have escalated by 50 per cent over the past five years, which exceeds the increase in funding received from the province during the same time period. The elimination of the carbon tax is expected to save the division $290,000.

Board receives quarterly financial update
The board received an update on the division’s finances for the third quarter of the school year (March to May). Treasurer Nadeem Altaf shared that the division is on course with what was budgeted for the 2024-25 school year.

Board discusses trustee onboarding process
The Board’s onboarding committee summarized some of the plans being developed for the first few months after the school board election in October. The board is interested in providing support for any individuals that are newly elected as trustees.
